The Three Essentials for Becoming an Ad Manager (Part Three of Three)
And we’re here—part three, the final piece of the puzzle!
So, what’s the last essential you need to thrive as an ad manager? It’s a perfect balance of strategy and attention to detail.
Your ultimate goal as an ad manager is to help your clients succeed, guiding them closer to their ideal customers and ultimately, a sale. And to do that, you’ll have to wear many different hats.
Many clients don’t know where to start when it comes to building a marketing campaign. They often aren’t sure how many emails to include in a sequence or how many steps their sales funnel should have. That’s where you come in.
To be truly successful, you’ll need to go beyond just ad management. One moment you might be analyzing performance data, troubleshooting issues, and figuring out how to optimize. The next, you could be running A/B tests on copy, hooks, or images.
As an ad manager, you’re not just an ad expert. You’re a planner, a writer, a consultant, a project manager, and sometimes even a designer—all rolled into one. It’s about understanding the data, assessing performance, and being ready to pivot when necessary.
Once your campaign is live, your focus needs to shift to tracking performance. How are the ads doing? What tweaks need to be made to improve results?
Your clients are depending on you to ensure their campaigns are performing at their best. Whether you’ve been in the game for a few months or a few years, you need to keep your eyes on the bigger picture.
What are their goals? Who are they targeting? And most importantly, is the data showing you’re heading in the right direction?
In a sense, you become a business partner. You care deeply about the success of your client’s campaigns, but you also focus on the overarching strategy. You might even help with things like landing page design or provide input on webinar structure—whatever it takes to make the whole sales process work seamlessly.
Top-tier ad managers are paid handsomely because they can take a strategic approach and implement every step of the process with precision.
Building a successful ad management business takes time and practice. But here's the secret to steady growth: start by managing ads for your own business. Develop your own sales process, refine your skills, and apply what you learn to your clients.
Master these three essentials, and you’ll be unstoppable.
Cheers,
Sarah xoxo
